Welcome to shantymen.co.uk the fun-loving hub for Sea Shanty lovers.

Sea shanties have travelled from the decks of working sailing ships to festivals, choirs, pubs, and concert halls. This site brings it all together — the music, the history, the groups, the events, and the people who keep the tradition alive. If you are a singer in a shanty crew or someone who just loves the sound of a good chorus, you’re in the right place.

We are delighted to have some special local sea shanty crews in the area. nelsons-shantymen.co.uk is actually based in our village at Brancaster Staithe, and organises the very popular Brancaster September Sea Shanty Festival. They can be seen rehearsing most Monday evenings at the Jolly Sailors. Visit our village

The group began in 1988, when local lifeboatmen and friends formed a singing group to mark the 150th anniversary of Sheringham’s historic lifeboat Augusta. They enjoyed it so much they continued singing, formalising as The Sheringham Shantymen in 1990.
